cc: to admin of myfreeforum.org
charactercounts.org had a REALLY LOUSY message board for a long time.
Now, they have had NO BOARD for a long time.
You might want to follow up and contact them yourself. Your two not-for-profits would make a GREAT team.
==================================
TO: webmaster@jiethics.org
Last week, I signed up for a free forum with them. In only 48 hours, in my spare time (I work full time) I had a site which looks like THIS:
http://literarydiscussions.myfreeforum.org
It is very easy to learn how to create and maintaine. Try it for free. When you are ready to go without advertising, then it is only $100 per year (60 British Pounds Sterling).
myfreeforum.org is a very ethical not-for-profit outfit which is connected with a movement for environment concerns. They are a perfect match for your Character Counts organization. Really. Look into it! It would make a lot of sense. I will be glad to be one of your moderators, part time, if you like. I used to post to your forum. You REALLY should have a message board.
Their server is in England. They host 5000 forums. Their security and support is rock solid.
Give it some serious consideration.
Best regards,
Sitaram

[QUOTE=Sitaram]I found this in phpBB. I am wondering if it also works in vBulletin
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/faq.php?mode=bbcode#8
Linking to another site
phpBB BBCode supports a number of ways of creating URIs, Uniform Resource Indicators better known as URLs.
The first of these uses the [-url=-][-/url-] tag; whatever you type after the = sign will cause the contents of that tag to act as a URL. For example, to link to phpBB.com you could use:
[-url=http://www.phpbb.com/-]Visit phpBB![/-url-]
(remove the hypens to make the code active. Use the QUOTE feature on this post, to acces the raw code)
Visit phpBB!
This would generate the following link, Visit phpBB! You will notice the link opens in a new window so the user can continue browsing the forums if they wish.
If you want the URL itself displayed as the link you can do this by simply using:
[-url-]http://www.phpbb.com/[-/url-] (remove the hypens)
http://www.phpbb.com/
This would generate the following link: http://www.phpbb.com/
Additionally phpBB features something called Magic Linkswhich will turn any syntatically correct URL into a link without you needing to specify any tags or even the leading http://. For example typing www.phpbb.com into your message will automatically lead to www.phpbb.com being output when you view the message.
The same thing applies equally to email addresses; you can either specify an address explicitly, like:
[-email-]no.one@domain.adr[-/email-] (remove the hypens)
no.one@domain.adr
which will output no.one@domain.adr or you can just type no.one@domain.adr into your message and it will be automatically converted when you view.
As with all the BBCode tags you can wrap URLs around any of the other tags such as [img][/img] (see next entry), , etc. As with the formatting tags it is up to you to ensure the correct open and close order is following. For example:
[-url=http://www.charactercounts.org/][-img-]http://www.toosmallforsupernova.org/banner-CC-community.gif[-/img-][/url] (remove hypens when you paste code)
The image is coming from Sitaram's site, so I am paying for the band width, and not stealing it
The trick in doing this is having your own website where the image resides, so that you are not illegally "stealing bandwidth" from another site.[/QUOTE]
