Sitaram: i am watching a dvd of Kurosawa's IKURU Sitaram: made around 1952 B&W hilzadork: Oh really Sitaram: IKURU means "TO LIVE" hilzadork: Oh yeah. Does it? Sitaram: it is about an old bureaucrat in the local govt. who Sitaram: suddenly learns he has stomach cancer and Sitaram: 6 months to live hilzadork: Aww Sitaram: so, he takes out 12 years of savings,,, Sitaram: and wants to spend them in a few days Sitaram: he discovers that he has never really lived Sitaram: and that his work has been meaningless hilzadork: Wow. Sitaram: his wife died when his sone was only age 6 Sitaram: so he never remarried, but devoted his life to his son Sitaram: but the son is married now and does not care about the father Sitaram: only wants his inheritence... Sitaram: the old man keeps company (nothing sexual) with a vibrant young woman from the office hilzadork: That sounds cool. Hope your enjoying it. Sitaram: she is innocent, child like Sitaram: it is in japanese with english subtitles hilzadork: Lol. Sitaram: but, also, it has a 2 hour commentary in english Sitaram: plus, a 2nd dvd with an interview of kurosawa hilzadork: Nice. Sitaram: i have also been watching fellini la dolce vita (1963) Sitaram: and ingmar bergman "WIld Strawberries" hilzadork: Really.
