Whoever proclaims himself good,
know, goodness approaches him not.
He whose heart becomes dust of the feet of all,
Saith Nanak, pure shall his repute be.
- Sikh Adi Granth, Gauri Sukhmani
God very much relishes the bhakti of the poor and the lowly, just as
the cow relishes fodder mixed with oil-cake. King Duryodhana showed
Krishna the splendour of his wealth and riches, but Krishna accepted
the hospitality of the poor Vidura.
- Ramakrishna, `The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna'
Humility is like a pair of scales; the lower one side falls, the
higher rises the other. Let us humble ourselves like the Blessed
Virgin and we shall be exalted.
-St. John Vianney, the Cure of Ars, `The Wisdom of the
Saints'
True humility is not the opposite of pride but the very negation of a
separate entity who could either be proud or humble. - Ramesh S.
Balsekar
- "A Net of Jewels" Ramesh S. Balsekar Advaita Press, 1966
What is this work? What is this doing good to the world? Can we do
good to the world? In an absolute sense, no; in a relative sense,
yes. No permanent or everlasting good can be done to the world; if it
could be done, the world would not be this world.
- Vivekananda
Karma-Yoga is a system of ethics and religion intended to attain
freedom through unselfishness, and by good works. The Karma-Yogi need
not believe in any doctrine whatever. He may not believe even in God,
may not ask what his soul is, nor think of any metaphysical
speculation. He has got his own special aim of realising
selflessness; and he has to work it out himself.

"Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks
of changing himself." - Count Leo Tolstoy
He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes;
He who does not ask a question remains a fool forever.
~~~~- Chinese Proverb
It ain't those parts of the Bible that I can't understand
that bother me, it's the parts that I do understand.
~ Mark Twain ~
"There is more to life than increasing its speed." ~~-- Gandhi
The world is made of stairs, and there are those who go up and
those who go down.
The world we have created is a product of our thinking. It cannot be
changed without changing our thinking.
-- Albert Einstein
"A man who wants to lead the orchestra
must turn his back on the crowd." ~~-- James Crook
"View a negative experience in your life like you'd look at
a photo negative. A single negative can create an unlimited
number of positive prints." ~~-- Gerhard Gschwandtne
"I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days
attack me at once." ~~--Jennifer Unlimited
