It isn't often that we contemplate no longer being here on this earth. It takes a serious jolt of information to get us to the stage of alarm, the stage that is on the hinterland of apathy. A bad prognosis for a loved one or even one's own health before the reality, the great reality of impermanency is expressed. John Keats wrote of this beautifully in his epic poem On Seeing the Elgin Marbles. His few words hit their mark like no other. Upon viewing some famous art pieces in Ireland, I thought of how many people previously viewed the same pieces that I was viewing-who only died. To see a painting or a statue that has seen millions die, and will undoubtedly out "live" you is an uncomfortable fact. What is it all for? What is it all worth? The former question doesn't bother me as much as the latter. To just live and then die, and then, that's that.(?)
Still contemplating......
