katare_ninad : hi

literarydiscussions: hello

katare_ninad : so still searching

literarydiscussions: you are still searching?

katare_ninad : no i am just chatting

literarydiscussions: sorry... i have so many on line people i meet in yahoo chat rooms,... i get confused sometimes

katare_ninad : oh no i am sorry

literarydiscussions: and some of them are searching for material for an essay, or school assignment

katare_ninad : ok

literarydiscussions: what country are you in... refresh my memory... i am in USA

katare_ninad : well i am just a student

katare_ninad : i am from india

katare_ninad : well nice to meet you

literarydiscussions: ok... nice to meet you

katare_ninad : so my friend told me that you have very much knowledge of almost everything

literarydiscussions: not really, I simply know certain subjects/areas, and things which are unusual, not generally known

katare_ninad : yes but that is a very nice thing

literarydiscussions: my message board http://www.literarydiscussions.myfreeforum.org has a selection of my writings and posts

katare_ninad : ok

literarydiscussions: it must be between 6pm and 7pm for you... in India

katare_ninad : so on which subjects you have researched

katare_ninad : its 5:30

literarydiscussions: so, you are on the west side of India, near Mumbai, and not near the east, Calcutta

katare_ninad : yes

katare_ninad : well thats very clever of you

literarydiscussions: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldc...235,236,268,14,26,438,246,122,179

literarydiscussions: that is the world clock i use

literarydiscussions: you can use it, and configure it to show additional cities

katare_ninad : and how did it exactly works

literarydiscussions: it is free,.... from a website.... you have to be connected to internet for it to work

katare_ninad : ok

literarydiscussions: if you visit www.timeanddate.com you will see

katare_ninad : so did you study on films

katare_ninad : foreign films i mean

literarydiscussions: i watched phulan devi on educational televison

katare_ninad : do you mean bandit queen

literarydiscussions: and zentropa, a german film about the occupation after WWII

literarydiscussions: yes... the bandit queen

katare_ninad : who was the director of zentropa

literarydiscussions: and the german film with Peter Faulk..... "Himmel Uber Berlin" (Heaven over Berlin), in english called "Wings of Desire"

literarydiscussions: oh.. you would have to google.com for all that, but it is easy to find

katare_ninad : yes i know that i just asked

katare_ninad : did you see any iranian films

literarydiscussions: hmmm.... no iranian films...

literarydiscussions: i am thinking now, to remember...

katare_ninad : well you should watch them they are beautifull

literarydiscussions: Monsieur Ibrahim, about the old Sufi grocier adopting the young jewish boy

literarydiscussions: with Omar Sharif

katare_ninad : no

literarydiscussions: in France... the title adds, "and the rose of the Quran"

literarydiscussions: which is an important aspect of the story

katare_ninad : what is the story

literarydiscussions: well, if i tell you, then it will be spoiled for you, if you see it later

literarydiscussions: since there will be no surprise

katare_ninad : well i have very little chance of seeing it

literarydiscussions: let me look for the link to what I wrote about it....

katare_ninad : ok take your own time

literarydiscussions: http://literarydiscussions.myfree.../ftopic192.php&highlight=omar

literarydiscussions: i mention the movie here

literarydiscussions: I recently watched that movie Monsieur Ibrahim with Omar Sharif on
DVD, about the old Muslim shopkeeper who adopts an orphaned Jewish
boy in Paris. The jacked of the DVD explained that Omar Sharif's
movies are banned in Egypt because he played opposite the Jewish
actress, Barbra Streisand, and kissed her. I was shocked to learn
this trivia fact.

literarydiscussions: excerpt from post

katare_ninad : that is really a good post

literarydiscussions: thanks... you can see 1500 of my posts at http://www.egroups.com/group/Sitaram

katare_ninad : ok

literarydiscussions: my attempt at a first book is http://www.toosmallforsupernova.org

katare_ninad : is your name sitaram

literarydiscussions: yes

katare_ninad : well do you know what it means

literarydiscussions: yes

literarydiscussions: my original website is http://www.members.aol.com/Sitaram

literarydiscussions: that is highlights of the original site

literarydiscussions: Hinduism and Interfaith Dialogues was its title

katare_ninad : so you are trying to write on supernova

literarydiscussions: it is a type of fiction...

literarydiscussions: you can download many of my writings as zipped files at http://www.toosmallforsupernova.org/download.htm

katare_ninad : based on supernova

literarydiscussions: http://www.toosmallforsupernova.org/downloads.htm

literarydiscussions: the second link is correct, (first link has typo error)

literarydiscussions: ok, HERE is the link i was looking for

literarydiscussions: http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?p=100492

literarydiscussions: There is something which Omar Sharif says several times in that movie which is quite germane to the question which this thread poses. Several times during the movie, the young boy asks Omar various important questions about life, and Omar simply answers, "I know what is in my Qu'ran".
We do not learn until the very end of the movie what is really meant by that statement. If I tell you what is meant, it will be a SPOILER, so I have placed the spoiler by itself on one page of my site, and here is the link:

literarydiscussions: http://toosmallforsupernova.org/sharif.htm

literarydiscussions: that link is the spoiler

katare_ninad : well you are really a great person

literarydiscussions: i have my short comings and failures...

literarydiscussions: f. scott fitzgerald died thinking he was a failure

literarydiscussions: and regretting that he wasted so much time on drinking and party life

literarydiscussions: he did a major rewrite of "The Great Gatsby" in the GALLEY STAGE, at the printers, when you should only be doing minor typographical corrections

literarydiscussions: fitzgerald was not "re-discovered" until 15 yrs after his death

katare_ninad : what are you saying

literarydiscussions: i am saying that people we consider great have their flaws and shortcomings...

literarydiscussions: from an historical distance.... we might see lincoln, or gandhi, or muhammed, or fitzgerald as larger-than-life heros.... but if we knew the person.... we would see their short comings and failures as well as their genius and success

katare_ninad : well but they are great in some manner

katare_ninad : arent they

literarydiscussions: there is some minor form of greatness in some of the things I have written.... and my writings will most likely disappear after my death,... because no one on internet wants to make the small effort to download them and preserve them for the future in some manner

literarydiscussions: to keep them alive on a message board or web site

literarydiscussions: everyone says, "oh, someone else will do that..."

literarydiscussions: which means that ultimately, no one does it

katare_ninad : hey man

katare_ninad : dont get dissapointed so easily

literarydiscussions: i have watched this happening for the past 8 years

literarydiscussions: various young people become enthused about being caretakers, and preserving the writings... and then, after a while,... they lose interest, lose contact, disappear

katare_ninad : well i know you are the little encyclopedia

literarydiscussions: you see, there are many encyclopedias, and search engines... but some of the ideas I expressed were unique, and to be found nowhere else

literarydiscussions: so... that is the tragedy... the lost of those few unique ideas

katare_ninad : see there are so few peoples who use ency

katare_ninad : isnt it correct

literarydiscussions: well, you have all my links... so you are now free to read everything I have written over the past 8 years, if you find it interesting

literarydiscussions: and you can download the html to the original website, with 420 browser pages...

literarydiscussions: if you like

literarydiscussions: and you can download the 1500 posts/essays, zipped, from the egroup

literarydiscussions: this entire post has some good things.... the post on women, emancipation, and quran

literarydiscussions: http://www.online-literature.com/...d.php?t=4519&page=3&pp=15

literarydiscussions: I feel compassion for young people (under 40) who are by their very nature idealistic and who, therefore, feel compelled to defend fiercely what they have come to consider as absolutes. It is difficult and painful for anyone, whoever and whatever you may be, to place your heritage, your ancestors, your history, your cherished beliefs, under the multicultural microscope of our postmodern world and ask difficult questions

literarydiscussions: (excerpt)

katare_ninad : off course

katare_ninad : sitaram can you do me a fever

literarydiscussions: what is that

katare_ninad : well dont get dissappointed

literarydiscussions: well... the end of everyone is their unavoidable death... so we must accept this.... and if the world is indifferent to my writings , then i must accept it

katare_ninad : and make a complete list of your search

literarydiscussions: what is this search you keep mentioning

katare_ninad : no your whole search

literarydiscussions: i cannot understand what you mean by search...

katare_ninad : i mean your posts essays and everything

katare_ninad : make a website of yours

literarydiscussions: you see.... i have said most of what i had to say, in my writings... and they are there for download.... if people take some interest... and a few have

katare_ninad : so that lot of peoples can see your work

literarydiscussions: and i have made many websites... and message boards

literarydiscussions: i cannot do much more than i have done...

literarydiscussions: "the ball is now in YOUR court" as they say in the game of tennis

katare_ninad : well you cant have the whole knowledge

katare_ninad : thats true

literarydiscussions: YOU meaning, the young people on the internet

katare_ninad : hey do you know ingmar bergman

literarydiscussions: i am familiar with the name

literarydiscussions: i watched a movie in the 1980s

katare_ninad : well i want screenplay of his films

literarydiscussions: search on google... that is all i can think to suggest
