aiden_dream: what does that sentence mean?
literarydiscussions: it means you have a question about a sentence
literarydiscussions: ha ha
aiden_dream: You never get over having been a child
literarydiscussions: oh, you saw my post
literarydiscussions: Edward Jones won a Pulitzer for his book which opens with a great first line, “You never get over having been a child.
aiden_dream: yes suddenly
literarydiscussions: ok.... it means that, all your life, as an adult, you carry about, inside you, that child that you were.... you never get over the memory of the wonder, the innocence, the
aiden_dream: yes elaborate
aiden_dream: whats getting over?
literarydiscussions: you always nag me when i am typing 80 wpm
literarydiscussions: you think i am machine
aiden_dream: oh really?
aiden_dream: I think you are a washing machine?perhaps
literarydiscussions: in other words... i distinctly remember, when i was age 4..... running around in the yard on a summer day...
literarydiscussions: and suddenly, i became acutely aware of how odd it is that I am me, HERE, at this moment... with this body
literarydiscussions: and not some other child, across the street
aiden_dream: really?
aiden_dream: when you were 4 ?
literarydiscussions: how odd that I have so little memory of anything before.... no memory of having been around a very long time
literarydiscussions: yes... i was quite a philosophical child
aiden_dream: yes god!
aiden_dream: I cant remember my feelings when I was 24!
literarydiscussions: i have one or two vivid memories of being in a baby carriage
aiden_dream: I cant believe
aiden_dream:
literarydiscussions: and seeing a red rattle , translucent...
aiden_dream: wow
literarydiscussions: the redness looked like my favorite flavor, cherry
aiden_dream:
literarydiscussions: and.... i wanted to taste the color,... it was synesthesia...
literarydiscussions: the confusion of senses...
literarydiscussions: i could not understand WHY i could not eat the color
aiden_dream: come on you couldnt remember you liked to taste it or not
aiden_dream: how interesting!!!!
literarydiscussions: well, if i have no credibility with you, then why do you solicit my opinion
literarydiscussions: should i doubt your veracity that you cannot remember feelings at age 24
aiden_dream: because its unbelievably moving
literarydiscussions: i do not doubt you, because i have known people, over the years, who utterly block out memories of words that i heard, and actions that i witnessed
aiden_dream: hey I am not trying to offend you...when I say I cant believe this or that..means its incredible not that you lie!
literarydiscussions: but, you see, what is moving to you is an ordinary state of consciousness for me...
aiden_dream:
aiden_dream: its really fscinating
aiden_dream: tell me more!
literarydiscussions: hmmm... let me think
literarydiscussions: well... you know... if you truly like this sort of think... then i can give you a link to a page of reminiscences about that very time in my life...
aiden_dream: wow yes
aiden_dream: what you were talking about in main window?
literarydiscussions: someone mentioned something about childhood i think
literarydiscussions: i just happened to glance, saw it, and thought of that interesting first sentence to a novel
aiden_dream:
aiden_dream: whats the book called?
literarydiscussions: http://toosmallforsupernova.org/fromtheauthor.htm
literarydiscussions: that is the link
aiden_dream: now let me drown in childhood
literarydiscussions: Edward Jones won a Pulitzer for his book which opens with a great first line, “You never get over having been a child.
aiden_dream: thank you for the lovely talk
