samuel_osatuyi : well, may be next time i have the money to come to browse, i will shoe u something concerning my poem

literarydiscussions: do the internet cafe computers have a floppy drive for a diskette

literarydiscussions: if you could get your poems typed up.... on diskette... then you could post them easily

samuel_osatuyi : no

samuel_osatuyi : it will be easy, at home, than coming to the net,

literarydiscussions: oh, you mean, if you had internet at home

samuel_osatuyi : no,

samuel_osatuyi : i mean PC

samuel_osatuyi : internet is too expensive

literarydiscussions: so.... listen.... suppose i give you an address where you can mail your poems, hand written, in english, and I could type them up and put them on a website, and also on a message board on the interent.....

literarydiscussions: so.... that way..... postage should be not so expensive... and you can write your poems... and I can put them on the internet, under your name....

samuel_osatuyi : yes, but it is more easier to be send by e-mail than other means

literarydiscussions: well... you can always email me.... sitaram@aol.com

literarydiscussions: or literarydiscussions@yahoo.com

samuel_osatuyi : the fastest way of send message out of the country is thriough DHL

literarydiscussions: whatever you email to me.... as poems....

literarydiscussions: i would post...

literarydiscussions: can you not send an ordinary postal letter....

literarydiscussions: we are not looking for speed but for cheap, low cost

samuel_osatuyi : the last one i sent to NETHERLANDS

literarydiscussions: how much did that cost? expensive?

samuel_osatuyi : IT IS ALMOST $100

literarydiscussions: for a postal letter?

literarydiscussions: i send big envelopes to Israel for only $5 USD

literarydiscussions: and an internet cafe here costs more than that for 1 hour

samuel_osatuyi : and if i will have such amount i would invest it, into that computer

literarydiscussions: how on earth can it cost $100 to send a letter in the postal mail

samuel_osatuyi : i won"t believe this

literarydiscussions: in usa, it costs 37 cents to mail a letter

literarydiscussions: within usa

samuel_osatuyi : the postal mail is not effective

literarydiscussions: to canada it is $4.00

literarydiscussions: to Israel it is $5.00

samuel_osatuyi : it amazing

samuel_osatuyi : am surprise hearing this

samuel_osatuyi : it ius the other way round here in Nigeria

literarydiscussions: hmmm... too bad your postage is so expensive

samuel_osatuyi : that is why the rate of poverty is at the rapid rate

literarydiscussions: what would it cost you to send a small letter to someone in another city in nigeria

samuel_osatuyi : i will make sure i come to broswer after the christmas

literarydiscussions: ok.. are you running out of time now?

samuel_osatuyi : no

samuel_osatuyi : am having less than 1 hr

literarydiscussions: http://www.nigpost.com/products.htm

literarydiscussions: perhaps this site will help you find cheap postage

literarydiscussions: what is your city

samuel_osatuyi : ok

samuel_osatuyi : the state is Lagos,

samuel_osatuyi : but the place is isheri osun

literarydiscussions: http://www.nigpost.com/lagos.htm

literarydiscussions: http://www.nigpost.com/postmaster.htm

literarydiscussions: there is the postmaster general mr. argungu

literarydiscussions: you should find out how much it costs to send a letter to the USA, with your poems in it ... to me

literarydiscussions: and i type them up

literarydiscussions: and put them on internet...

literarydiscussions: but not at a cost of $100

literarydiscussions: find out how much it costs to send letter to USA....

literarydiscussions: and get that very thin light airmail paper,.... to write on....

literarydiscussions: this website does not say how much it costs to send letter to USA

samuel_osatuyi : let me study the site

literarydiscussions: visit a post office, and ask them how much it costs to send a letter to USA

samuel_osatuyi : but one thing so amazing, u almost know Nigeria more than me

literarydiscussions: that is the google.com search engine

literarydiscussions: in google.com i searc on : nigeria postal rates postage

samuel_osatuyi : u ar right

samuel_osatuyi : ok, u ar really brilliant

literarydiscussions: all the young students here do this.... even younger than highschool....

literarydiscussions: i learned from my step son when he was 13...

literarydiscussions: with google.com we do not need reference books or encyclopedia

samuel_osatuyi : ok

literarydiscussions: http://www.ebusinessforum.com/ind...amp;channelid=6&categoryid=22

samuel_osatuyi : well, i will mail them

literarydiscussions: article on nigeria and internet/postal system

literarydiscussions: whatever you send me, as poems, or what you want on internet.. .i will type and post...

samuel_osatuyi : depends on how fast it is, the poem will be send on the 5th of next month

literarydiscussions: but write in english, obviously, and very legible....

literarydiscussions: print, if possible...

literarydiscussions: why worry about speed....

samuel_osatuyi : ok

literarydiscussions: speed is not the important thing here... but cheap cost of postage

samuel_osatuyi : ok

literarydiscussions: I touch-type very fast... so it is easy for me to type up your writings

samuel_osatuyi : ok

samuel_osatuyi : thanks very much, i wish i could be together, to say my gratitudes

literarydiscussions: regarding Nigeria: The country needs to increase the number of computer-science students and teachers in order to develop web-related enterprises. There are now just over 1,300 students enrolled in computer studies in the country, according to government sources.

literarydiscussions: from that last link

samuel_osatuyi : am grateful

literarydiscussions: but... visit post office... find out about cheapest letter postage rate

samuel_osatuyi : i will

samuel_osatuyi : as soon as i get any money, i will post the poem

samuel_osatuyi : thanks

literarydiscussions: Given the infamous inefficiency of NIPOST, courier services have emerged to fill the gap. The early entrants in the local courier trade include DHL, Fenway Couriers, IMNL (which later gave way to United Parcel Service) and SAS Cargo. Federal Express, Red Star, TRANEX, Der Kurier, United Couriers and Global Express are also present.

literarydiscussions: However, couriers face various expenses in Nigeria that make their services more expensive. They are required to pay a registration fee, also known as a licence fee, of N250,000 to NIPOST. An annual renewal fee costs N100,000. They must also register with the Corporate Affairs Commission.

samuel_osatuyi : ok

literarydiscussions: take the time to write out as many poems as possible... to put in envelope... so you will get good value for your money... and use thin paper designed for air mail letters

literarydiscussions: if it is availble....to reduce weight of letter

samuel_osatuyi : ok

samuel_osatuyi : but, there is still sth am fussed abt

literarydiscussions: ?

samuel_osatuyi : of what benefit will this bring to me ?

literarydiscussions: i thougt it was what you wanted... to see your poetry on the internet...

literarydiscussions: it is one of the few things i can do for you...

literarydiscussions: i do not see it will bring you any financial benefit

literarydiscussions: you seemed to want to post your poetry.... but you have little money for internet....

samuel_osatuyi : ok, leave that side,

samuel_osatuyi : which ever the case, i will keep on writting

literarydiscussions: if postage is cheap enough... you can send me your writings, and i can type them and put them on internet, and also on disk and CD.... and send to you....

samuel_osatuyi : ok

samuel_osatuyi : thanks

literarydiscussions: you see... if you pursue your desire to write... you will take a way time and energy that could be spent on bettering your financial situation, or your education....

literarydiscussions: so... you must decide which you value...

literarydiscussions: i mean, the ability to write something..... or else... to put aside writing.... and pursue some business or career advantabe

literarydiscussions: even the most famous poets of this last century, do not make much money from their efforts

samuel_osatuyi : ok

literarydiscussions: there was a poor poet in portugal (i think he wrote "The Tobbaconist")... he died, and in his rented room, they found a chest filled with his writings...

literarydiscussions: so... after his death, he has become famous...

literarydiscussions: but he was always poor during his life

samuel_osatuyi : well u ar right

literarydiscussions: if you learn computer skills, it sounds like you could help nigeria build up its economy, as there is need for computer specialists

literarydiscussions: according to that link

samuel_osatuyi : ok

literarydiscussions: you know.... i see african men selling DVD and CD in the streets, on the sidewalk.... perhaps they are from Nigeria, some of them, perhaps from Ghana... i do not know which countries.... they spread their blankets on the side walk, and display their CD and DVD

literarydiscussions: or others sell incense and souviner statues.... carvings..... some of them are from Bangladesh... india

literarydiscussions: others sell fruit from carts...

literarydiscussions: they left the problems of their countries behind....

samuel_osatuyi : u mean in USA

literarydiscussions: the work a difficult life in the cold, in the rain..... but i guess things are better for them than in their own country...

literarydiscussions: yes, in USA

literarydiscussions: so,.... i see their struggles, and can imagine that what they have here, as difficult as it is, is better than what they had in their country

samuel_osatuyi : ok, every one want to be great and be rigid abot life, they"ve even forgotten home

literarydiscussions: my father , years ago, took me on a cruise ship to Bermuda,.... and all the ship crew were from 3rd word poor countries....

literarydiscussions: they worked 16 and more hours per day... very difficult lives....

literarydiscussions: but... someone told me, that in their own country,... perhaps someone would be shooting a gun at them...

samuel_osatuyi : why, they know the stress before they could get their visa, so over there they walk so hard to get the money back

literarydiscussions: so... for them.... they are grateful to be on the ship, working so hard

literarydiscussions: they were all young , those ship workers

literarydiscussions: so, they could endur the long hours, with little sleep

samuel_osatuyi : in anyway .i don"t find them to be blamed

literarydiscussions: but, on the other hand.... there are those who choose to stay in their home land, in nigeria or india,.... and to try and build up the life and economy of their country

samuel_osatuyi : that is part of life we are

literarydiscussions: in recent years, many koreans who came here, to run small grocery stores, are now returning to south korea,.... feeling that opportunity is better now

samuel_osatuyi : well, thare is nothing i can say,

literarydiscussions: i went into a pizza shop, and all the workers were from mexico, from one city called Oaxaxa (Wa-ha-ka)

literarydiscussions: they come to usa for the money...

samuel_osatuyi : but, if am also opportune to come to the US,is to come and study

literarydiscussions: and to send money home to families

samuel_osatuyi : but, will use believe that Nigeria is not a poor country ?

literarydiscussions: certainly, from what i read in that url link, Nigeria is poor, and faced with many problems

literarydiscussions: that link i posted says it all...

literarydiscussions: literarydiscussions: http://www.ebusinessforum.com/ind...amp;channelid=6&categoryid=22

samuel_osatuyi : yes, it is true, there is money, but depends on the levl u belongs to

samuel_osatuyi : a poor,find it difficult to be rich

samuel_osatuyi : but rich becomes richer every day

I posted at this Nigerian Message Board

http://www.boards2go.com/boards/b...;id=1134954070&user=boomieask

I have an internet friend in Lagos, Nigeria. I told him to write his
poems in a letter and mail them to the USA, and I would type them
and post them on the internet, since he does not have a computer
and the internet cafe is expensive. How much will it cost him to send
an ordinary letter to me in the USA. He seemed confused, and said he
spent $100 to send something via DHL to Netherlands. I am certain
that sending an ordinary letter at a local post office is not going to
cost more than the price of a lunch. I can send a big envelope from
USA to Israel for $5.00 USD. Please advise me. I searched in google,
and found all sorts of info about Nipost, the Nigerian postal system,
but nothing about the cost of sending a letter.
Sitaram

literarydiscussions: quick, i am curious, tell me.... how much would it cost you to send an ordinary letter from Nigeria to United states by postal system
literarydiscussions: do you use Nira currency or Euros
Jeff Max: #150naira
literarydiscussions: someone told me that Nipost is too unreliable, and the letter would not arrive in USA
Jeff Max: it will
literarydiscussions: is 150 naira the cost of an hour or 2 in the internet cafe?
literarydiscussions: to be on line
literarydiscussions: how must is 150 naira in us dollars
Jeff Max: some places 120
Jeff Max: some 100
Jeff Max: for an hour
literarydiscussions: ok...
literarydiscussions: and how must in us dollars appx is 150 naira
Jeff Max: 140
literarydiscussions: how MUCH is 140 naira
literarydiscussions: or 150 naira in us dollars
literarydiscussions: you are not saying that 150 naira = 140 dollars us
Jeff Max: i mean that 140naira = 1dollar
literarydiscussions: ok...
literarydiscussions: so... it costs a little more that 1 dollar to send letter to USA, and it will arrive ok.... if it contains nothing valuable
Jeff Max: yes
literarydiscussions: thanks..... some fellow in Lagos claims that it would cost much more... and that the letter would never arrive...
Jeff Max: wat business do u have with them
BUZZ!!!
literarydiscussions: http://literarydiscussions.myfreeforum.org/ftopic866.php
literarydiscussions: it is here.... samuel osatuyi, i told him to write his poems and mail them to me....
Jeff Max: ok
literarydiscussions: he claims he spent $100 to send letter to Netherlands via DHL
Jeff Max: DHL is about 7000
literarydiscussions: 7000 naira is $50 us
Jeff Max: but i have not used dhl before i only use registered or post office
literarydiscussions: samuel seems very confused about post office
Jeff Max: i do not really know
Jeff Max: but dhl is effient and reliable
literarydiscussions: well... to send some poems in an envelope to usa, for 150 naira,.... should be ok....
Jeff Max: i guess
literarydiscussions: look, i found a Nigerian message board and posted http://www.boards2go.com/boards/b...;id=1134954070&user=boomieask
literarydiscussions: how far are you from Lagos?
Jeff Max: about 45 min via air
literarydiscussions: wow, quite a distance... what is your city
Jeff Max: 7to 8 hours on rd
literarydiscussions: Is Islamic sharia law in effect throughout Nigeria, I found a article about a boy who stole a motorbike, and confessed, and the judge ruled that his hand be cut off, ..
Jeff Max: no only in some northen states
literarydiscussions: do you see hope, progress for nigerian economy, government.... or are you pessimistic
literarydiscussions: what city are you in
Jeff Max: Port Harcourt
literarydiscussions: ok...
Jeff Max: the govt is trying
Jeff Max: but there a whole lots of hunger here
Jeff Max: unemployments everywhere
literarydiscussions: do you see corruption as a big problem.... it sounded like nipost postal system suffers from corruption...
literarydiscussions: is aids a big problem?
Jeff Max: sure bcos few nigerians are eating wat belongs to too many
literarydiscussions: on our educational TV (which is very independent of government, and donation supported)... there was documentary about aids problem in Africa... and a doctor who worked in Africa on aids, said that one problem is CONCURRENCY...defined as:
literarydiscussions: in one village, you might find 12 men and 12 women, and in the course of 1 month, each male would have sex at least once with each female.... definition of concurrent relations
literarydiscussions: so, doctor said the dramatically escalates the changes of spreading AIDS HIV virus
literarydiscussions: have you ever heard of or seen such a thing as CONCURRENCY
literarydiscussions: i do not know any other africans to ask this question
Jeff Max: not so in nigeria
literarydiscussions: do you think that concurrency happens in other African nations?
Jeff Max: the surge is not as the western media is portrating it
literarydiscussions: interesting
literarydiscussions: they speak of certain countries where 50 percent , or more than half the people, are HIV positive, and they worry how the country will find enough soldiers to defend itself
Jeff Max: but the problem is much anyway in east and southern Afrca but not as much in the West africa were i belong to
literarydiscussions: it is good to have internet and be able to speak with people around the world... i think this will gradually change the world for the better
Jeff Max: as u know western media always exaggerate any thing in africa
Jeff Max: people from there will tell some of u that we live on top of the tree and walk bare footed
literarydiscussions: actually,... i cannot easily know.... but we do not think that everyone is in a jungle.... i know there are many large cities.... i regularly see films of life in africa (not wild life)
Jeff Max: but people are no longer in jungle
literarydiscussions: i did not think they were...
literarydiscussions: we see documentaries of actual towns and cities...
Jeff Max: lagos abuja pretoria portharcourt accura harare ... are mor like new york
literarydiscussions: yes, i realize that...
literarydiscussions: in america, among those of african descent, there tends to be a great romanticizing about african roots, and tradition and ancestry... and it is elaborated in fiction and movie...
literarydiscussions: i knew a man from Ghana, (where they speak Gha, Twi, and Asanti).... and he told me that when he went into black neighborhoods.... people would treat him like a folk hero...
Jeff Max: those things u seen in movies were things of old, and happens no where again in nigeria at least to start with
Jeff Max: i have to go are u there
literarydiscussions: yes...
Jeff Max: ok
literarydiscussions: but.... the things with the genocide , the hutu, that really happend
literarydiscussions: hutu and tutsi
Jeff Max: sure it happend but such we pray wont happen again
literarydiscussions: but, i mean, usa news does not fabricate everything
Jeff Max: sure
Jeff Max: too expensive chating here
literarydiscussions: ok... thanks for info...take care
literarydiscussions: thanks for info on postage
literarydiscussions: and currency
