When we travel from point A to point B, we need to enjoy the journey, not just have the goal in mind for the destination...
Many years have passed since I read Pirsig's Book, and the above statement summarizes for me the entire contents of his book.
You talking about rabbit holes, I sense that you have seen the movie: "What the Bleep do we Know"?

It really is ashame that, with so much money throuwn at the movie and its implications, still th eimperious western urge for a profit motive clouds the trememdows possibilities and the Economic paradigm overrides all of the other good that the movie really portrays. I am not bashing the authors of the movie or anything, I am just perhaps venting at the ills and things that go wrong in society, and then people turning around and not paying attention at the real message but at the short term monetary implications of such Scientific findings...
