Amrita Pritam,icon figure, towering personality,novelist,story writer ,one of the greatest name in the histroy of the South Asian passed away quietly in her sleep.
Before her there was greatest woman writer in the flourshing literature of Punjab, which is most populated area .
She got inspirations from Punjabi folk songs, classical literature and Punjabi culture and remained true to her Punjabi orgin.
She was inspirated from Punjabi poet Waris Shah ..She was a prolific writer produced twenty four novels, 15 collections of short stories
She recieved highest civilian award in India . She also remained the member of the Rajaya Saba , the upper chamber of Indian parliament of from 1986 to 1992 . Born in sikh family of strict Punjabi family . She worked hard to achieve her goal of life and she came out with flying colors. It was a magic , slow and often torturous .It required courage more than any thing else as she has once write ":what matter is not life but the courage you bring to it". Her mother passed away in her golden periond of childhood .
She spent a very lonely love for next many years.
Her parents being stictly religious never allowed her to make friends. She learned rhyme and rythm from her parents who wanted her to write religious poetry..
So she acquired poetry she published her first book when he was barely 17 years . She married about a same time . In 1936 she shifted to Lahore with Pritam Singh. Lahore was epicentre of culture and tradition at that time. She took formal training in dance and music and joined Radio Lahore.
Before Indo-Pak partition he published eight poetry books . After partition she settled in New Delhi .
Many times she wrote on woman's issues . She dedicated a work of poetry anthology, the collection of poem to a great poet Sahar Ludhavianvi, a famous urdu poet . She never enjoyed the fruit of marriage. She was divorced from her husband in 1960.
She made a literary friendship with a painter Imroz
Amrita Pritam and Imroz started A Punjabi mag . Nagmani in 1966.. This magazine was reguraly published untill 2002.Although she wrote poetry till to her death october 31, 2005.
She wrote a last poem for Imroz
" i will meet u again where?
how? i donot know .
Perhaps as a figure of your imagination .
i Will appear on your canvas .
Or appearing as a mysterious line on your canvas quietly /
Iwill keep starting at you.

I hope you can see the powerful movie Frida about the life of a woman artist in Mexico city, who reminds me of the person in your post.
