|
|
Behaviorists tell us that people are influenced by their enviornment.
Cognitive psychologists tell us that people are influenced by how they
earn skills or other things from those around us in an apprenticeship kind
of way. Psychoanalysts say it's in our subconscious mind. While we have
many explanations for horrible behavior in this society, what constitutes
evil? Are there children who are just born bad? Are there adults without
mental disorders who are just plain evil?

In reading the link above, you have to wonder why a child would beat
their grandmother with a baseball and then plunge a knife into her nine
times. Was this kid born bad? Is there ever an instance where that would
be the case? The article mentions an allegation of abuse on the part of
the grandmother towards the grandson. Would there be reasonable
grounds to suspect that to be the case? Are her actions, and
subsequently her mindset and physical body-evil? Perhaps the real
question is this-where does neurosis and psychology end, and where does
the religious concept of evil begin?
