Party Time

The days are growing shorter as Summer bids farewell
Though it seems like bad timing as far as I can tell
For Nature’s throwing a party I heard Squirrel say
It’s all in Autumn’s honour and she’s already on her way

Mist saw her in the Meadow, just outside of town
She was popping into Woods, to find her party gown
So I guess Jack Frost is coming too, creeping in the night
And he’ll be dressed to kill - all shimmering in white.
.
It’s going to be amazing, a kaleidoscope unfurled
It’s the highlight of the season, wouldn’t miss it for the world.
What on earth will I wear? It must be something bright,
Something colourful, exotic, let Jack wear the white.

They say the Woods will be a riot, The Maples so risqué,
But I bet Virginia Creeper tries to lead the way.
Oh! Darling you look terrific, scarlet is so you
Especially with your complexion – gold just wouldn’t do.

Ah! The orchestra is playing the Wind section is very strong
That means the show’s beginning, Hurry, or we’ll miss Wren’s song,
The Leaves will soon be dancing, everyone’s in a whirl
‘Come! Let’s dance together, Let’s leap and twist and twirl.

Plants & Trees did the catering, they certainly did excel,
Oh, and the Bees brought honey, that always goes down well
There were lots of fruit and nuts, berries and seeds galore
I’m sure I couldn’t eat another thing, not a berry more

Time to go, children. Oh! Hedgehogs fast asleep
Better not disturb him – not even for a peep.
So step along quietly he’ll sleep the winter through,
Like Door mouse and Toadie, Mummy, is Squirrel sleeping too?

We’ve had a really lovely time - it truly was a blast
But all the guests are leaving I’d hate to be the last
And Spring says we must be ready. We’ve got to have our rest
There’ll be such a lot to do and we must look our best

‘Is it really that late?’ said Autumn with a yawn
And casting off her finery, she tiptoed across the lawn.
Time has passed so quickly, I know just how she feels
And now December’s waiting at the door - with Winter at his heels

Nature gave a splendid party, sharing all that she holds dear
Perhaps, - if we’re lucky, she’ll repeat it all next year.
So with that happy thought I’ll say ‘Adieu’
and wish you all a fond ‘Good night’
Oh! And would the gardener tidy up - and please put out the light.

That is a very exciting poem, like its happening right in front of you. Loved it. Keep it up! Reminds me of Simon and Garfunkels' April Come She Will song.
