Peter says:
i think the vip section is getting pretty big
Peter says:
is everyone who joins going to be a moderator?
Sitaram says:
sure enough... admin still sees you as invisible.. but your name is in italics
Sitaram says:
no... you are right... i am not going to let it get enormous
Sitaram says:
i shall figure some way...
Sitaram says:
we shall overcome!
Peter says:
any ideas?
Sitaram says:
you are invisible now, correct?
Peter says:
yeah
Sitaram says:
ok.. yup...
Sitaram says:
well, you see, then only bulky thing is the personal forum.... and it being visible...
Peter says:
i cant see the whole forum now
Sitaram says:
could you see it before?
Sitaram says:
before you became invisible?
Peter says:
yes
Sitaram says:
well.. hmmm... switch back to visible and tell me what happens
Sitaram says:
how odd
Sitaram says:
which things CAN you still see when you are invisible
Peter says:
i just wasnt logged in i guess
Peter says:
i can see the whole thing now
Peter says:
am i still invisible?
Sitaram says:
let me check
Sitaram says:
you still show as invisible
Peter says:
sweet
Sitaram says:
maybe it take a few minutes
Sitaram says:
i can go into your profile as admin, never fear
Peter says:
ok
Peter says:
SFG75 is a really cool guy
Sitaram says:
i just change you back to visible
Sitaram says:
to see what happens
Sitaram says:
it worked, you show as visible
Sitaram says:
can you now see more of the forum
Peter says:
yes i see that
Sitaram says:
?
Peter says:
i saw it as invisible
Peter says:
i just wasnt logged in
Sitaram says:
ohhhh
Sitaram says:
i thought so
Peter says:
i already figured the problem out
Peter says:
haha
Sitaram says:
it is very important, i think, to click the box that says/... "stay logged in"
Sitaram says:
it keeps your cookies more stable..
Peter says:
yeah
Sitaram says:
so you dont toss your cookies
Sitaram says:
ha ha
Sitaram says:
that is slang for "throw up"
Peter says:
i know
Sitaram says:
i thought you must... the folks in other parts of the world may not
Peter says:
probably not
Sitaram says:
there is a FABULOUS on line movie style tutorial for phpbb forum admins
Sitaram says:
you MUST try to go through it at some point, and get your own forum... just for learning purposes if nothing else
Peter says:
i might start a forum with one of my friends
Sitaram says:
http://www.phpbb.com/support/tutorials/

Fabulous Flash Tutorials on setting up PHPBB Forums
Sitaram says:
this is all SO exciting...
Peter says:
haha
Peter says:
sure is
Sitaram says:
and today.. i had a smashing long philosophical chat with Rex, in Beijing
Sitaram says:
which i put at the showcase too
Sitaram says:
for visitors to see, as a sample
Peter says:
cool
Sitaram says:
I registered Mono for him, and emailed him, but he has not shown up so far, though he seemed sincerely interested
Peter says:
hm
Sitaram says:
but,... he just started school....
Peter says:
yeah
Sitaram says:
so he is probably swamped
Peter says:
hes probably really busy
Sitaram says:
hey... each of us should be admin of our own forums... since each of us has at least from 2 to 10 good online friends... so.. they should join our personal forum
Sitaram says:
thats what I think
Sitaram says:
and everyone should have the thrill and learning experience of being an Admin
Sitaram says:
the phpbb folks are working on a new release which may define superadmin/founder/owner
Sitaram says:
if i had that, then I would make many of you admin right now...
Sitaram says:
but... until that happens... be weary with your own forum of giving anyone else admin status...
Sitaram says:
since if they get pissed off. ... they can delete YOU or delete the forums
Peter says:
yeah
Peter says:
i dont think that you should make everyone moderator
Sitaram says:
i guess to be effective the superadmin would need the ability to configure the powers of admins, and hold back some of the destructive powers...
Sitaram says:
although, as Gertrude Stine used to say on her Paris web site, "A delete is a delete is deleted"
Sitaram says:
so kiss that baby good buy
Sitaram says:
hence... the only advantage to superadmin, is that the admins could not hijack the entire site...
Sitaram says:
but if they got really pissed off, or psychotic.. they could delete everything in it...
Sitaram says:
which comes to the next idea... that phpbb should have a built in easy way to export/backup entire forum contents and definitions... so that the superadmin could restore in such events...
Sitaram says:
now.. if you pay myfreeforum.org 180 pounds sterling.. they will PROVIDE you with your entire forum contents and software... to put at your own site...
Sitaram says:
so, if you have your own server.. then you could do physical backups on it...
Sitaram says:
but, if you have a provider as your server... oh...well.. wait.. then you could backup using FTP, and you would simply pay the added cost of bandwidth...
Sitaram says:
so.... myfreeforum.org might want to make ftp backup available to their users at some fee...
Sitaram says:
at their website, they have a place to post such suggestions...
Sitaram says:
Henry, you come up with some great ideas, thanks!
Sitaram says:
ha ha
Peter says:
i was just letting you rant
Sitaram says:
so, get your own freeforum site... go through the disney tutorials
Sitaram says:
then.. post your site at my forum... so we can all go and join, and be your slaves... and you can abuse us mightily
Peter says:
maybe
Sitaram says:
well, whatever
Peter says:
haha
Sitaram says:
i think this may take off like wildfire
Sitaram says:
really
Sitaram says:
think of it...
Sitaram says:
everyone who is at some forum now, who loves participation, but feels bullied or marginalized,... walla, bingo, presto...
Sitaram says:
suddenly, they are gods of their own universe
Sitaram says:
master of all they survey
Sitaram says:
and they can invite two or three of their snivelling friends to join...
Sitaram says:
just kidding
Peter says:
yeah but a small forum population is a little dull
Sitaram says:
but.. you see.. the personal forum is merely a SUPPLEMENT to large forum life
Sitaram says:
but.. be discrete and keep your mouth shut in the bigger forums, so they dont feel threatened and see you as a thief, come to steal members
Sitaram says:
and our M.O. is to have long wise and wonderful chats like this, and then post them , edited for others to learn
Sitaram says:
and contribute...
Sitaram says:
and it will be Internet as Multimind
Sitaram says:
we will all be one great expanded consciousness... galactic in proportions
Sitaram says:
and we shall swing upon stars, carry moonbeams home in jars
Sitaram says:
and be slightly less addicted to porn
Sitaram says:
you just wait and see
Sitaram says:
(injecting a little comic relief)
Sitaram says:
time for some canned audience laughter
Peter says:
yeah
Sitaram says:
oh.. but wait.. i forget, our chats are filmed before a live audience
Peter says:
youre getting weird on me
Sitaram says:
listen.. you see... today i realize the most wonderful thing...
Sitaram says:
in all the other forums.. i must constantly censure myself, for fear of reprisals...
Sitaram says:
but... in my own forum... i am totally free to be creative
Sitaram says:
thats it! dont you see! we are free! la la la la (runs about tossing rose petals)
Sitaram says:
seriously folks...
Sitaram says:
this is free speech: Marlboro Country (without the lung cancer)
Sitaram says:
watch me gallop across the screen upon my noble steed
Peter says:
im doing homework
Peter says:
thats why im not replying that much
Peter says:
but feel free to keep talking like this
Sitaram says:
just trying to make you laugh
Peter says:
im laughing
Peter says:
just busy
Sitaram says:
i am done i guess...
Sitaram says:
dont pee in your pants
Sitaram says:
and if you do, dont blame me
Peter says:
ok
Peter says:
i wont
Peter says:
promise
Sitaram says:
this is my pee disclamer
Sitaram says:
pee at your own risk...
Sitaram says:
now, this is what I call good, clean Forum Fun, where noone gets hurt, and every body doesnt clamor for us to be banned...
Sitaram says:
besides we are consenting adults...
Sitaram says:
well.. almost
Sitaram says:
sometimes, I feel the spirit of Thomas Pynchon in me, as I write
Sitaram says:
other times, I feel the spirit of Andy Rooney
Sitaram says:
speaking of which, his book, "Years of Minutes"
Sitaram says:
catchy title
Sitaram says:
Now, here is our M.O. (method of operation) we only let brilliant witty people join, like we are...
Sitaram says:
then we have brillliant witty chats in MSN and Yahoo and AIM
Sitaram says:
THEN, we edit and post them for all the dullards to come and read
Sitaram says:
then when they beg to join, we say,.... NO DULLARDS ALLOWED...
Sitaram says:
then, we let them in anyway..
Sitaram says:
but we given them their own crappy forums to slob around in
Sitaram says:
and we call this (I cant hear you.....) DEMOCRACY
Peter says:
haha no dullards allowed
Sitaram says:
EXCUSE ME while i take some more drugs (hey, coffee is a drug, beer is a drug... and even sugar is a drug)
Peter says:
i love coffee
Sitaram says:
seriously, chemists consider sugar to be part of the broad family of ALCOHOLS, which include waxy substances in creams and lotions, that does not intoxicate.. but structurally is an alcohol
Sitaram says:
cetyl alcohol
Sitaram says:
probably cetyl comes from the word for whale...
Peter says:
i snorted a pixie stick once
Peter says:
it hurt a lot
Sitaram says:
gosh, i never though of that til just now
Peter says:
i wouldnt recommend it
Sitaram says:
oh, thank you, ghost of Moby Dick
Sitaram says:
ghost of Melville
Sitaram says:
because.. whales were an important source of ambergrist...
Peter says:
yes
Peter says:
which was very valuable
Sitaram says:
which is the finest base known for perfumes
Peter says:
ANIMAL CRUELTY
Peter says:
how dare you!!!!
Sitaram says:
one bucket of whale puke would pay for a year long voyage
Peter says:
thats funny
Sitaram says:
no.. they would find the ambergrist floating on the water
Peter says:
something so vile could be transformed into a delicate fragrance
Sitaram says:
noone quite understands why or how... but sometimes, whales toss their cookies...
Sitaram says:
and it stinks, i am told... but they process it into a base for fine perfumes
Peter says:
ive heard this before in my readings of 19th century maritime affairs
Peter says:
Lord Nelson and the like
Sitaram says:
if you really like a girl, you will give her whale puke for sure...
Sitaram says:
so she knows you care...
Peter says:
this is definitely going to be posted on the forum
Peter says:
this whole conversation
Sitaram says:
certainly...why not,... it is fabulous
Sitaram says:
and not that filthy..
Peter says:
do you watch movies
Sitaram says:
only when my eyes are open
Sitaram says:
ha ha
Sitaram says:
yes.. i love dvds especially
Sitaram says:
i saw a great one... about this soldier in boot camp... and they are going to be sent over to Nam...
Sitaram says:
i forget the title
Sitaram says:
we borrowed it
Peter says:
sounds like Full Metal Jacket
Sitaram says:
but.. there is the fabulous scene where this YEAH THATS IT
Sitaram says:
the best scene, which is VERY instructive from a literary perspective
Sitaram says:
is the poetic monologue by the gradeschool drop out... about the moon...
Sitaram says:
which moves the clever soldier SO MUCH ... that he winds up getting the fellow a hardship discharge
Sitaram says:
so... you see , it is literature as philosophy in motion...
Sitaram says:
it is poetry which saves and changes lives
Sitaram says:
and you do not have to be educated to produce it...
Sitaram says:
and it is like that film Pianist about the Jewish virtuoso during WWII...
Peter says:
thats a good one too
Sitaram says:
and his playing at the end, moves the Nazi soldier to spare his life
Peter says:
i loved that one
Peter says:
yep
Peter says:
have you seen Sin City
Sitaram says:
there are special lessons for us in such scenes
Sitaram says:
no...
Sitaram says:
i only watch movies occasionally... on dvd.. or educational tv.. we do not have cable

Precisely! Perhaps Plato was the first to discover that something magical happens whenever "two or more are gathered together". Plato called it "dialectic".

Whenever member have great chats, they should edit and post, for all to enjoy and learn from.

Some members do not feel comfortable with this. One has contacted me and ask that I not post our chats, and so, I have given my word that I shall not.

But for those of us who feel comfortable, it is a wonderful idea to chat-post-share.

Remember, these forums are not visible to guests who visit, but only to registered member, and only when I add them to the SHEEP group and grand them permisions.
