My first day as administrator of my first forum is drawing to a close.

Kudos to phpBB and myfreeforum.org

I think I started around 9 hours ago.

I have been on the internet for 8 years and I did do some php and mysql so learning this software is not that bad.

I created the forum from a computer at work. When I came home, I saw SFG75 on line. I tried to login in as admin and as another of my identities which as admin rights, but I could not log in. I went to browser internet options and deleted all cookies. Somehow, that fixed the problem, and I could log in to admin.

My biggest learning curve today was understanding how to use GROUPS, and specifically, how to add members to a group.

When you are logged in as admin to the admistrator page, then there is a GROUPS button to click on at the top of the screen. I have created a group called Hidden1. When I select that and click on VIEW DETAILS, then at the bottom of the screen is a button to add membors.

On the left side of the screen, in the admin page, is a section on Groups, where you can specify for any give group which forums it has moderator rights to and which of the hidden forums it can "see" and have access to.
So, you configure the group with moderator rights, and then any member you add to that group will automatically have all those rights. And if you have 50 members in a group, then you do not have to change 50 profiles, to add a new forum to moderator rights. You add mod rights for that forum to the group namel, and then all members of that group automatically are given moderator rights.

It took me a while to realize that I can easily and quickly navigate to the main forum page by clickin on the large PHPBB icon at the top left of the screen.

I have just learned how to change my name from admin to Sitaram. Go to the admin management page. Click on left on Admin Index. Go to whos on line. click on ADMIN, and you will see a screen name with admin which you may then change to your desired user name (in my case, Sitaram)

It's simple! Pick any name you like. It does not HAVE to be your registered name. You do not need to enter an email address, but if you DO, then people can click on your name in the message and email you. IF you enter a URL, then, when they click on your name, they will be taken to that URL. Then, simple type your message and click GO. To check for replies, click on REFRESH.
