The official word I got from SUPPORT on this is that, for the moment ONLY ADMIN can bann. This may be changed in the future, as it would be advantageous for MODS to ban. It is this way for now, because it was thought that the ADMIN would be somewhat more safe from malicious MODS. In some future release, they hope to impliment a SUPERADMIN or FOUNDER/OWNER status.... i am told, and also to give mods power to ban.

Having modded on another board, I can tell you that the only time you really want to pass the power to ban is to do so temporarily when you are on vacation or something like that and you know a mod. will be around a lot. Other than that, it's kind of a useless thing for a mod to have really. Not only that, but the folks on this board are great. :)

Well, time will tell who joins, an how nice they are....

I created a hidden group called GOATS, which is like a ban... they can post and read, but only the boring things....

and then the hidden group SHEEP, is for those who should see everything and post... but they are not moderators

Well if a board has a huge population then mods banning can get necessary. But here it isn't. Not yet at least.

In this particular phpbb software.... only Admin can ban... and it is awkward to make a second admin (it is indeed possible to make everyone admin) but then if a co admin gets upset.... they can ban me... and I already have 100 man hours sunk into the board....

But, if i pay 18 pounds a month.... I can have a board with no ads, that allows me FTP access to do my own backups...

And if you are backed up regularly... then... a bad apple admin cant to as much damage
