Yesterday I downloaded ICQ messenger, and updated my profile with my ICQ number.

I used to use it a lot, about 8 years ago. I used the search engine to fine people on line, in cities like Chennai, India. I would say hello, and invite them to look at my website.

Today, I used the search engine to locate, in USA, people in the age 50s bracket, who like cultural things. My very first response was Lucky, aged 70 in Seattle.

By the way, when I launched ICQ, I clicked on the option that says I am using a public computer. I am at home, but I thought that would be more secure. Bad idea! When you launch with that public option, the you CANNOT log your chat messages. AND, I cannot succeed in cutting and pasting from ICQ to Doc or Notepad or Word (why this is I do not know).

I found the answer to my mystery HERE at the ICQ message board

http://www.icq.com/boards/view_me....php?topic_id=467861&tid=7293

It was a bit of a mystery on finding the correct ICQ download page, and the correct link to click on... I shall try to recreate my steps.

You will notice at that link above, that there is even an IRC chat related to ICQ.

ICQ can be a great way to meet people with an interest in literature or philosophical or spiritual conversation. And it can be a way to increase membership in your message board forum.

It's simple! Pick any name you like. It does not HAVE to be your registered name. You do not need to enter an email address, but if you DO, then people can click on your name in the message and email you. IF you enter a URL, then, when they click on your name, they will be taken to that URL. Then, simple type your message and click GO. To check for replies, click on REFRESH.
