|
|
One of my favorite PBS Public Educational Shows is [b]Religion and Ethics
in World News[/]. One of todays feature stories was the proposed ban
of the ordination to the priesthood of men suspected of having
homosexual inclinations.
This is an interesting and important, but a controversial topic. I have
some definite ideas as I watched the segment.
I have known many Roman Catholic priests in my life, though I am not
Roman Catholic. I spent several years living in and around both Greek
and Russian Orthodox Monasteries.
I spent several years, when in my early 20's, thinking that I wanted to
enter a monastery and take life long monastic vows.
In this post, I am going to try to put into words what I know about
religious celibacy, both in Christian traditions, as well as Buddhist and
Hindu traditions.
I do not wish to stand in judgment of anyone person, or any class of
people their lifestyles or any religious denomination.
It is difficult to find a forum or arena or atmosphere in which people may
discuss human sexuality without being lewd or self-righteous or simply
light-hearted and facetious.
(I will file and edit during the day as I add my thoughts)
