Theology made simple
This is a story relates to a King's Prime Minister. His adversaries in
the court had made plans to demote him in the eyes of the king and to
do so had prepared three difficult theological questions for him to
answer.
The king sent for the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister knew that he
would not be able to answer these difficult theological questions. He
asked a friend who was religiously orientated to go in his place.
As soon as the friend entered the king's court, he asked the king to
let him sit on the throne as that was customary. The highest seat
must be offered to the guru (teacher)! He then asked the king to sit
at his feet and ask the questions. The king was quite shocked at
this behaviour but complied.
The first question asked by the king was:
"Where does God live?"
The man asked for some milk to be brought to the court. Then he asked
the king, "Oh King, where in the milk does the fat reside?"
The king said, "The fat does not reside in any one part of the milk
but resides everywhere".
"So it is with God, he does not reside in the heavens or any such
place but resides everywhere", said the man.
The king was satisfied with the answer. He asked the second
question, "In which direction does God look?".
The man asked for a lighted lamp to be brought to the court. He asked
the king, "In which direction does the light travel?"
"In all directions at the same time", replied the king.
"God too looks in all directions at the same time", replied the man.
(How laughable to think that God would actually want all of mankind
to bow in the direction of one particular city.)
The king was pleased with the answer, then he asked his third
question,
"What does God do?".
The man replied, "God likes to play. He makes the poor man sit on the
King's throne and makes the King sit at his feet."
Everyone smiled.
The king liked all the answers and made him his chief advisor.
