Notice that these posts are sorted by date, so you start from the bottom, and work your way upwards. This is a "sticky" which stays at the top.

I shall try to post brief observations that will describe, in a nutshell, what these discussions are about.

The timeline of Pirsig's life is important in understanding ZMM (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance).

It is important to realize that Pirsig is brilliant, at top 1st percentile of cognative testing. But he is so brilliant, that he is unstable, and passes in and out of mental hospitals.

I do not say this to in any way denigrate Persig or cast his work in a pejorative light.

Rather, it is simply necessary to bear in mind that some of these books are written by people of such a lofty stature, intellectually, that it is difficult for the person of average abilities and background to get a handle on it.

Also, when someone is too brilliant, they feel alientated from the rest of the average world.

You will notice that I have posted some other chats of mine that may seem not to pertain directly to Pirsig and ZMM (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance)
